sunny sunday

I think today was the best day of the year so far :) it got so warm we had to drop the blinds in the wheel house!
Dad tried out the fein tool on the doors, sanding them down before painting them with undercoat. Juan came to help me do some woodwork in the aft cabin We battened the bulkhead, and started screwing tongue & groove planking to it, which looks much better than the painted rockwool behind.

new toy

I've splashed out on a new toy, a fein multimaster, after borrowing one I decided to buy one for myself! It's been put to good use today cutting out the bad wood below the windows in the aft cabin. I've also removed the sea toilet which was tucked under the ladder making it almost unusable! I'll re-locate it to the opposite corner of the cabin.

foam party

I sprayed the insulation onto the aft cabin this morning, a step in the right direction :)
Whilst I did cover up the stuff I though was important, so it didn't get foam stuck to it, it turns out I should have covered everything!
I spent the next few hours scraping foam off the floor...

busy bunnies

During the week Dad has been making the most of the good weather, He's stripped the canvas from the foredeck, and I came over after work to lift the windlass from the deck. Today we lifted out the samson post (the big post that you tie the boat up by)

I've been putting battern onto the ceiling of the aft cabin which will support the wooden ceiling once I've sprayed the foam insulation onto the metal.

Monday 5 April 2010

Juan came to help me today, we put a larger tarpaulin over the bow to keep the rain off while the canvas is removed and my father is attending to the woodwork.
We had fun battling with the wind, in the end fixed the edges whilst standing in the dinghy!
After a much needed lunch break, the sun came out so we managed to do some painting. Juan painted the metalwork round the edge of the aft locker, whilst I cleaned up and then primed the newer metal work inside the aft cabin.

Saturday 3 April 2010

I've finished scraping paint from the roof of the aft cabin :) It's been a long job.
the plan was to remove the old flaky paint before I put up new insulation. I've gone round with the paintbrush and touched up all the rusty patches there the studs were welded on too.
I did take a break after lunch to fix the pump that empties the grey water from the sink and shower, It turned out the float switch had died, so all the water from the sink was going into the bilge.
Dad has been making a new wooden support for the spare anchor, and painted some of the side deck to try and seal a few drips.

Friday 2 April 2010

Once the tide went out on monday, I discovered the anode near the propeller had disappeared (fizzled away) so I replaced it this morning. With the addition of a wooden backing piece to isolate it from the copper sheathing on the hull (otherwise It will disappear again very fast!)
whilst maintaining the connection to the brass it is protecting.

After this I scraped more of the paint from the aft cabin, and dad fitted draught excluders to the wheel house doors.
last but not least I rigged a tarpaulin over the bow to help the deck dry out.
